Asia Express: HTX Experiences $30M Hack, 100K Koreans Participate in CBDC Testing, Binance 2.0

– HTX exchange, formerly known as Huobi Global, has experienced its fourth hack in two months, losing $30 million in a hot wallet hack.

– The exchange has promised to fully compensate for the losses and guarantee the safety of user funds.

– In addition to the recent hack, the HTX Eco Chain (HECO) bridge was also exploited for $86.6 million.

– Binance has agreed to plead guilty to violating the U.S. Bank Secrecy Act and will pay $4.3 billion in penalties and forfeiture to the U.S. Justice Department.

– Changpeng Zhao, co-founder and CEO of Binance, has also pled guilty to one count of violating the U.S. Bank Secrecy Act.

– Zhao has stepped down as CEO of Binance and Richard Teng has been named the new CEO.

– The Bank of Korea is inviting 100,000 Korean citizens to participate in a pilot test of its central bank digital currency (CBDC).

– The participants will be restricted to using the currency for payment purposes only.

– The Bank of Korea has not yet decided whether or not to implement a CBDC, but further trials are expected.
