Polygon Zero has accused Matter Labs of copying significant code from its Plonky2 library to zkSync, a rival Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution. According to Polygon Zero, Matter Labs copied a substantial amount of source code without proper attribution or copyrights. The allegedly plagiarized code was found in Matter Labs’ proving system called Boojum, which is similar to Plonky2’s library. Polygon Zero also questioned how Boojum could be marketed as 10x faster than Plonky2 when it directly copied the performance-critical field arithmetic code. Matter Labs has not yet responded to the accusations. This is not the first time plagiarism accusations have arisen in the crypto community.
